Neuhauser

1959 - 2024 / Austria

Contemporaries

After suffering a stroke in 2006, Herbert Neuhauser had to abandon his work as an architect. Suddenly facing extreme physical disability and existential anguish, he sought refuge in his passion for drawing.

His most recent works have become more colorful. His world is populated by strange, icon-like figures. He crowns their heads with his initials and integrates the forms into a network of structures, surrounded by ornaments and symbols. His name and the precise date of creation appear on each drawing. Influenced by Herbert Bayer's typography, his drawings weave a vast, continuous network that, in some ways, recalls the structure of stained-glass windows.
