Czechs

Stanislas Holas is a mediumistic artist from a spiritualist circle in South Moravia.

A cooper by trade, he later became a gendarme.

He drew from a very young age until a very advanced age, with long breaks. He intensified his artistic output after the death of his wife in 1969.

His drawings were presented in various mediumistic exhibitions in Czechoslovakia and in New York in 1937.

The figurative representations of his early drawings (around the 1920s) disappear in the works of the 1940s, which depict vibrant objects in warm colors, or round and undulating forms. Spiritualist writing can be discerned on some of his drawings. From the 1960s onward, he worked in India ink, which reflects his inspiration drawn from the characteristic ornaments of South Moravian folk costumes.
